How do I find out what type of hard drives I have?

I formatted my internal and external hard drive by mistake.
From what I've read, I need to know what type of hard drives they are in order to recover the files. When I click on Properties for the external hard drive, it says 'ext3'. But when I click on Properties for the internal hard drive, it doesn't say what type. So how do I find out?

Who says you need to know what filesystem was on the drive?
You probably won't be able to recover the filesystem as it was, but by using file-carving, you can recover a lot of the data.
